 Mayan backroads Bike Tour

mayan culture & punta laguna nature reserve

This is a magical tour that takes you into the forests, cenotes, and farms of the Mayan villages of Yucatan. You will meet authentic sustainable communities that have been living off the land for generations, growing their own food, and using the natural resources of the jungle to build their homes. The setting is the lush forest of Punta Laguna: a jungle wildlife reserve inhabited by monkeys, deer, coati, birds, reptiles, insects, felines, and much more.

We meet rural communities who are working to protect their environment and culture, who lead us through the jungle searching for wildlife and teach us about medicinal plants and herbology, native beekeeping, and the history of their families. The bikes allow us to move at a natural pace through the back roads, taking in the landscape and the peace of this rural area.

We will visit a beautifully tended cenote, where you can jump off high ledges or climb down to the refreshing water. We hike through the jungle on the lookout for monkeys in Punta Laguna, paddle a canoe, zip-line and swim in the wonderful waters of the lake. You will enjoy a delicious home-cooked organic meal made from homegrown ingredients, all the while connecting with the natural world and the people who live in harmony with it.
